Incurso Will Devour Your Soul

For fans of Necrophagist, Obscura, The Faceless and Origin

I’m going to start off by saying  HOLY SHIT, LOOK AT THE ALBUM ARTWORK!!!  It’s like H.P. Lovecraft combined his worst nightmares with the darkest and most horrifying secrets of the universe, which subsequently birthed a creature so vile that its very existence is a fundamental contradiction of logic.  Seriously, don’t stare at it too long, you’ll lose your mind. Wretched Returns with Son of Perdition

For fans of Between the Buried and Me, The Black Dahlia Murder, and Opeth

I never expected Wretched’s 2010 sophmore release, Beyond the Gate, to be as good as it was. It was leaps and bounds ahead of its predecessor, The Exodus of Autonomy, and featured some of the most impressively original songwriting I had heard from an American death-metal band in a very long time. Well, the Northern Carolina metalheads have returned with their follow-up, Son of Perdition, last month, and though it may not be as huge a leap forward as Beyond the Gate was, it’s another strong offering from one of the most underrated emerging bands in death metal.

They all need a hug. And a beer.

This is a truly unfortunate story.  What’s even more unfortunate is that it happens all the time during these unforgiving winter months.

The Fallout: Dolving Leaves The Haunted [Again]

2011

Dolving truly was a mad man, it's going to be a tough pair of shoes to fill.

Fans of The Haunted on Facebook woke up to some very distressing news this morning. Peter Dolving, long time vocalist for swedish thrash-metallers The Haunted, has left the band permanently… again.

Crawl Into The Harvest Wombs

I don't know what's happening here, but I'm sure it's awesome.

As I’ve mentioned before, Metal is a hit-or-miss genre. It’s rare to find a band that plays incredible music while still being able to experiment with their sound. There are a few names that come to mind when I say that: Opeth, Meshuggah, The Black Dahlia Murder, Obscura, among others. However, when a band comes virtually out of nowhere and puts out a stellar album with all the right skill, sound and experimentation, it’s truly a thing of beauty. The reason I say this is because a band has just recently done exactly that. A band from right here in the San Francisco Bay Area. They’re called Fallujah, and they’ve set a new standard for Technical and Atmospheric Death Metal with their first full length album, The Harvest Wombs. Read more of this post

BAMF Spotlight: Embryonic Devourment

Every week, Wrecked will be highlighting bands playing the upcoming Bay Area Metal Festival. This week we give you the crushingly brutal Embryonic Devourment from Willits, CA.

If you want a dose of shred with your morning cup of coffee, look no further than Embryonic Devourment, one of the big names topping this years Bay Area Metal Festival. If you like your metal with a relentless attack, full of blast beats, demonic growls, and enough shredding to give a plastic surgeon trouble putting your face back together after everything’s said and done, then you need to turn your attention to these guys. Brutality hardly comes close in describing Embryonic Devourment’s take on extreme metal. Death metal purists, proggressive enthusiasts, tech-metal lovers alike can find something to love about ED’s sound, and I fully expect them to bring the noise this July closing out the BAMF fest with Forbidden and Ulysses Siren.

BAMF Spotlight: Dissipate

Every week, Wrecked will be highlighting 2-3 bands playing the upcoming Bay Area Metal Festival. We’re kicking this week off with Dissipate, an 8-string wielding, progressive death metal band from Livermore, CA.

For fans of Dying Fetus, Candiria, Sikth, Meshuggah, Massive Attack, Car Bomb, The Dillinger Escape Plan, etc.

Fun fact #1: I had my nose permanently broken while moshing to Dissipate back in 2006 when my old band played a show with them at Lucky’s Pizza in Dublin, CA.

Fun fact #2: Wrecked founder, Ivan Torres, was their vocalist at the time.

It’s nice to see that Dissipate is still around melting faces like candle wax. If you want to see a band that knows how to handle their shit live, then you need to check out Dissipate. This is technical death metal that is actually interesting, in my opinion. From their Into the Moat style vocals, to their unique blend of progressive, slightly math-y, and ferociously executed death metal, Dissipate is one of those bands that always breathes something fresh into an ever-growing more stale metal genre. That and they represent Livermore, which has been a breeding ground for some pretty sick acts over the last ten years. We’ve got some tunes and a music video for you after the jump…

Get Viking’d with Amon Amarth’s Surtur Rising

For fans of: Dark Tranquillity, (early) In Flames, Opeth, Dethklok, etc

There are a ton of big names in metal that we hear about all the time but somehow never manage to look into, and for me that big name was always Amon Amarth. I have friends that have liked them forever, I’ve seen people sport their hoodies at shows, I’ve seen their albums on store shelves, and every time I made a mental note to listen to the band, but never followed through in doing so. A few weeks ago, the Swedish natives released their eighth studio album, Surtur Rising. After so many years of passing this band up, I finally decided to give them a shot, and I’m very glad I did.

You Won’t See This New Direction In Unseen Coming

Let me begin by making one thing clear: I fucking love The Haunted. I’ve been listening to them since One Kill Wonder first came out, and I own everything they’ve ever put out (besides their greatest hits collection). So, as you could imagine, I was pretty stoked when I heard The Haunted would be putting out a new record this year. Nothing, however, could have prepared me for the album they’d eventually release.

Going Beyond Expectations With Beyond The Gate

For fans of: The Faceless, Between the Buried and Me, Through the Eyes of the Dead, The Black Dahlia Murder, Opeth, All Shall Perish, etc.

Every so often, I walk into a record store with the intent of finding something new. Not just some new run of the mill band that plays the same riffs I’ve heard a dozen times already, but something entirely new. Well, something led me to pick up Wretched’s Beyond the Gate on a whim, and it was definitely one of my favorite and most dynamic albums of 2010.  And, no, it’s not just because they shared all but two letters as the name of our site.

Children of Bodom Are Back to Relentlessly Shred Your Face Off Yet Again

Children of Bodom came out with a new record? Yeah, I’m as surprised as you. I’m not saying that like it’s a bad thing, it just feels like yesterday that Blooddrunk was released, but fuck, that was in 2008? Time flies, and Relentless Reckless Forever is the new disc to melt your faces from the Finnish death metal-ers. Bodom have definitely regained their footing since 2005’s atrocity Are You Dead Yet? Though “Trashed Lost and Strungout” is quite possibly one of my favorite Bodom songs ever, besides that song and the title-track, that album was pretty much garbage; a minor blemish on an otherwise stellar discography that seems to be on the right track.
